You will probably want to consider buying ''Windows Game Programming for Dummies'' by Andre Lamothe. It''s a great book, which introduces you to working with DirectX. It works up to building a complete game engine. The last chapter talks a bit about the industry, publishing, resources, etc. Great book for beginners! There aren''t any other books (to my knowledge) that introdcue you to programming and talk about the industry.
