Project based $ or hourly $?

What is the standard for working with developers, artists, etc. on a contract basis, especially in a distributed arrangement? It pretty much depends on the kind of work and what either party prefers. Usually the contract is based upon some kind of effort estimation which is basically a calculation of the hours going into the project*hourly rate*1,5 or 2.


btw: the world doesn´t need to be reduced to mathematical equasions - mathematics already is the language of the universe, there can be no reduction to what is already all-encompassing.
The standard in a distributed arrangement (IE they are working freelance) is to pay on a weekly or monthly milestone basis. You would agree the work that has to be delivered with the artist and when it is delivered you review it, approve it and pay.
