Interesting article here... http://news.com.com/2100-1040-908740.html?tag=fd_top Weren''t we just discussing this topic here a few days ago? Evidently these guys think the idea of movie-like funding for game projects is a good idea.

Which thread were you disscussing that in?
Hmmm... entitled something like "completion bonding" or "VC funding" or maybe both.

The general consensus here was that it just wouldn''t work, but now I see that Seamus is starting a company to do just this.
The difference here is that instead of a money company that knows little or nothing about the industry we have a production company that has the money to fund projects. The people running it are industry people and they will "fund and supervise development of games".

Isn''t this basically what Gathering of Developers tried to do? Although I guess they did the funding and publishing.

The article doesn''t say how the investment is returned. Do they own part of your company? Part of the product?

Take care,

No, because these new guys are a production company, using the money to fund other developers. GODS was a bunch of well off developers who set up a publisher. They funded their own developemnt and GODS would then publish the games. They didn''t fund other developers like most publishers do.
