Yes, I''m still in the industry. I no longer work with DMA Design, I work with a company called Paradigm Entertainment who are probably most famous for the likes of Pilotwings64 & Beetle Adventure Racing.

As to 2D vs 3D, one isn''t automatically better than the other, one doesn''t automatically have more gameplay than the other. I can''t believe some people''s opinions on this!

A game is a game is a game. A 2D game will have a harder struggle at retail unless it''s well polished. A 3D has the same struggles - it''s easy to make a really BAD 3D game. Very few of the top ten games are polygonal 3D, instead they give the illusion of 3D - ala Diablo 2, The Sims etc.

I don''t think the public at large picks up a game & goes "ugh, it''s 3D". I know where you''re coming from, aegrimonia, but you''re off base a little.

GAAH! And the majority of ''em aren''t even multiplayer! Why the heck have I been spending all my time on networking and 3D!?!

BTW just to clear up, Counter-Strike IS 3D. All the guns/ppl are made in 3D studio max and are polygon based.

Couple of points:

The Sims are 3d. The characters are, anyway.

You''re only listing PC titles. Console games outsell PC games by a wide margin, on the order of 10 to 1. Almost all of the best selling console games are 3d and/or multiplayer.

Note the lack of any 3d games from this list.

If Frogger 2 is the same game on the PC as it is on the PSX, then it's definitely 3D. It's setup like Tomb Raider or Spyro. (Character in front of the camera, I mean.)

I wish there was a top 10 list for more hardcore gamers. I honestly couldn't care if Deer Hunter sold better than Barbie Pet Rescue, but I would like to know how Diablo II sales compare to Rune sales. (Obviously D2 is selling better, I just picked two random games.)

Edit: Messed my quotes up the first time.. whoops.

And Counterstrike is *DEFINATELY* not "based on very old 2d engine". It''s using the Half-life (Modified Q2) engine.
